Commercial Backflow
Commercial / Industrial – Customer Application
Greenville Water Authority is committed to providing a continuous supply of high quality water to its customers. The safety of the public water supply is a top priority and potential risks of contaminants entering the water supply will not be permitted. To help prevent this, GMWA complies with Federal and State Drinking Water Act (SDWA) regulations and the Pennsylvania Code – Title 25, Chapter 109 (the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s official publication of rules and regulations) through implementation of its Cross-Connection/Backflow Prevention Program.
It is the responsibility of the facility owner to install and maintain a backflow preventer in order to prevent contaminants from entering the public water supply. The risk of contamination can be from potential or actual cross-connection, which could allow for a “backflow” or reversal of normal water flow. As a result, you are required to install an approved backflow on each service line supplying water to your facilities. Final plans for the installation of a backflow protection device must be approved by Greenville Water Authority prior to installation of the backflow protection device.
Below is a link to a survey form, regulatory framework, and appropriate Backflow Prevention Test Report form(s) to help you comply with these state and federal regulations.
To comply, you must do the following:
Immediately complete and return survey form.
The Water Authority will determine the type of testable backflow protection device required.
Install the approved backflow protection device(s) within 60 days of receiving this notice.
Have the device(s) tested by a certified tester and return a completed Backflow Prevention Test Report to Greenville Water Authority.
It is strongly recommended that you employ a contractor that is experienced with backflow devices to complete the work to assure that installation and testing procedures are met. All backflow preventers must be tested at the time of installation and annually by a licensed backflow tester. The Greenville Water Authority will send you forms prior to the annual due date.
The completed form(s) can be returned using one of the following options:
Mail (or drop-off) to Greenville Water Authority, 44 Clinton Street, Greenville, PA 16125.
Fax to (724) 588-7868 Please include a cover sheet, a contact name and phone number.
E-mailed to shannon.mcclimans@gmwa.info
If your facility already has backflow preventer(s) installed, please call us to verify installation and plan to have the backflow preventer(s) tested concurrent with verification. (724) 588-4340.
The protection of public health is of the utmost importance and as such, failure to comply with this requirement will result in water service termination.
Please be reminded that the “containment” backflow prevention device(s) required by the above-mentioned regulatory agencies do not protect your internal plumbing or the persons within your facility, and that a certified surveyor should perform an in-depth survey of your internal plumbing system. The internal survey should include the inspection of cross connections within your facility and address the need for internal protection devices. If you have any questions or need further explanation, please contact us at 724 588-4340 or by mail: Greenville Water Authority, 44 Clinton Street, Greenville, PA 16125
